MEXICO: Ukraine peace proposal proves divisive

Senators from Mexico’s centre-left opposition Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) hosted deputies from Ukraine on 28 September. The message during the meeting was clear: MC did not share the Mexican government’s position on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This came days after Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard presented a proposal for achieving peace in Ukraine before the United Nations (UN). The proposal, which was first outlined by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on 16 September, has received a mixed reaction.
