Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to offer his congratulations on his election the previous day in which he defeated the incumbent president
Jair Bolsonaro by 50.9% of the vote to 49.1% in a second round run-off. According to the White House, during the call, President Biden “
commended the strength of Brazilian democratic institutions following free, fair, and credible elections”. The statement notes that the two leaders discussed the “
strong relationship” between the US and Brazil, and “
committed to continue working as partners to address common challenges, including combatting climate change, safeguarding food security, promoting inclusion and democracy, and managing regional migration.”.
