MEXICO: US arms dealers hit with lawsuit
Mexico’s government made headlines around the world in August 2021 when it filed an unprecedented lawsuit against major US firearms manufacturers. Now, the Mexican government has filed a second lawsuit, this time targeting arms retailers in the US state of Arizona. The lawsuits ultimately aim to hold the US arms industry legally responsible for gun violence in Mexico. However, in the process, the strategy is bringing international attention to the issue and exerting political pressure on the US administration of President Joe Biden to combat illegal arms trafficking.
