In brief: Brazil’s unemployment at lowest level for last quarter since 2014

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest employment figures, showing that unemployment stood at 8.3% in the rolling quarter ending in October. This is the lowest unemployment rate for the quarter in Brazil since 2014. The rate represents a decline of 0.8 percentage points on the preceding rolling quarter (May-July), and of 3.8 percentage points year-on-year. Ibge research coordinator Adriana Beringuy commented that this trend of job creation growth began in the “second half of 2021”, adding that “as we approach the last two months of the year – a period in which job creation has historically been higher – it continues”.
