BOLIVIA: Protesters stand down in Santa Cruz

After 36 days of disruptive anti-government protests in Bolivia’s eastern department of Santa Cruz, the opposition-affiliated departmental business lobby Comité pro Santa Cruz (CPSC) called on protesters to stand down on 26 November. It did so following the government’s announcement that a national census will be held in March 2024, after the postponement of the census had prompted accusations that the government was seeking to gain an unfair advantage in the 2025 general election [WR-22-43].
