MEXICO: López Obrador showcases popularity

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has come out fighting following protests against his proposed electoral reform on 13 November [WR-22-46]. The protests had served as the biggest show of resistance to his government so far and had buoyed a somewhat deflated and divided opposition. In response, the president called for a demonstration in support of his government. Marching among the people and speaking in front of crowds in the main square, the Zócalo, in Mexico City (CDMX) on 27 November, López Obrador paid testament to his enduring popularity and provided an example for those wishing to succeed him.
