The first issue of the year 2023 of the
Latin American Regional Report: Brazil & Southern Cone focuses first of all on the new government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who was inaugurated for a third term as president of
Brazil on 1 January. Among the many challenges he faces is the question of his government’s relationship with the business sector, as it seeks to balance the need to kick-start the economy and address looming fiscal problems with the promises of its social agenda. As the report’s first article explores, the market is not overly pleased with the Lula government’s signals so far, although there have been some encouraging moves.
