In brief: Brazil’s vehicle production up year-on-year

* Brazil’s national association of vehicle manufacturers (Anfavea) has released figures showing that 152,700 vehicles were produced in January 2023. This marked a 5% rise on the same month in 2022, but Anfavea described the increase as “timid” given that in January 2022 the global semiconductor shortage was more acute and the Omicron wave of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic was at its peak. Nevertheless, Anfavea noted that exports this January were the highest in five years, with 33,000 vehicles shipped abroad. Anfavea said that “this acceleration has been constant since 2020, but could be interrupted in the coming months” amid signs of slowing sales in key export markets such as Colombia and Chile.
