In brief: Chile’s unemployment edges up

* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new employment figures which show that unemployment stood at 8.0% during the November 2022-January 2023 rolling quarter, an increase of 0.7 percentage points year-on-year. The 8.0% figure is slightly up from the 7.9% figure in the previous rolling quarter but in seasonally adjusted terms the unemployment rate stood at 8.3%, unchanging on the previous rolling quarter. According to INE, the informal employment rate stands at 27.3%, slightly down from 27.4% in the previous rolling quarter and down 0.7 percentage points year-on-year.
