In brief: Brazilian meatpacker JBS reports major slump in profits

* The Brazilian meatpacking giant JBS has announced that its net profit slumped by 63.7% year-on-year in Q4 2022, with liquid profits in Q4 totalling R$2.3bn (US$438.88m). A JBS statement described Q4 as “especially challenging” due to “seasonal and external issues that negatively influenced the carrying out of JBS’s operations”. Across the whole of 2022 JBS’s profits totalled R$375bn, up 6.9% on 2021.
