In brief: Argentina’s economic activity edges up in January

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures on economic activity which shows that the economy grew by 0.3% in January 2023 as compared to the previous month. This is the first monthly increase since August 2022, following contractions of 0.9% in December, 0.8% in November and October, and 0.1% in September. In year-on-year terms, GDP grew by 2.9%, with the biggest increases in fishing (+81.2%), mining & quarrying (+11.5%) and hotels & restaurants (+8.6%). Agriculture, livestock, hunting & forestry was the only sector to post a year-on-year decline (-15.5%).
