In brief: Costa Rica registers deflation in Q1 2023

*Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures which show that inflation in the first quarter of 2023 was -0.92%, the highest negative variation of the last five years. The same figures show that monthly inflation in March was -0.23%, bringing the annual rate to 4.42% - the lowest annual inflation rate since January 2022. The monthly figure is up from -0.85% in February (when annual inflation was 5.58%), and down from 0.16% in January (when annual inflation was 7.65%), and 0.13% in December (when annual inflation was 7.88%).
