In brief: Mexico hails agricultural production

* Mexico’s agriculture ministry (Sader) has announced that agricultural production in 2022 totalled 271m tonnes (t), a 0.9% increase on the previous year. Sader stated this was driven by a higher harvest of fruits, vegetables and fodder. According to Sader, the area planted during the 2022 agricultural year totalled 20.75m hectares (ha), while the harvested area totalled 20.23m ha. As a whole, Mexico produced 297.6m t of food last year. Sader stated that the upward trend will continue this year, with a volume of around 301.3m t expected, which would imply an increase of 1.2%.
