Scandal at flagship governmental body deepens

Segalmex, the Mexican government’s flagship food security body, is in the depths of a growing scandal. Doubts around the body’s finances have existed since its creation in 2019. However, a slew of arrests in late March and early April cast Segalmex into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons and indicated major progress in the investigation into corruption at the institution. This will cause major discomfort for the government, providing another counterpoint to its claims of having rooted out corruption.
