In brief: Dominican Republic posts highest monthly growth of 2023

* The Dominican Republic’s central bank (BCRD) has published a new report which shows that the country’s monthly index of economic activity (IMAE) was up 3.6% year-on-year in October – the highest monthly growth rate in 2023. It follows year-on-year growth of 3.1% in September and 2.0% in August. According to the BCRD, year-on-year growth in October was mainly driven by hotels, bars & restaurants (+9.0%), followed by financial services (+6.4%), construction (+4.7%), agriculture (+4.1%), free zones manufacturing (+3.4%), trade (+2.8%), and local manufacturing (+1.5%), among others. The BCRD also highlights that the country posted 2.6% growth in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the same quarter in 2022.
