In brief: Brazil expecting record harvest in 2023

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has updated its forecast for the 2023 harvest of grains, cereals, legumes and oilseeds, predicting a record harvest of 293.6m tonnes (t). This would represent an 11.8% increase on the predicted haul for 2022, which is expected to come in at 262.7m t (an increase of 3.7% on the 2021 harvest). Ibge attributed the increase in 2022 to favourable climatic conditions, after droughts negatively impacted harvests in 2021, particularly in the centre-south region.
