In brief: Mexico

* At least eight Mexican states are now affected by fuel shortages, grounding automobile drivers and causing long queues at empty petrol pumps. Mexico’s state-run oil company Pemex has said that the fuel shortages are due to recent changes in distribution methods, particularly the adoption of more secure transport methods for fuel distribution, part of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s plan to tackle oil theft in the country. Pemex has emphasised that there is no production shortage and that it is working hard to remedy the logistical issues that have caused the delay in distribution, asking for the population’s understanding and that consumers avoid panic buying of fuel.
