In brief: Brazil

* The Brazilian association for meat exporting industries (Abiec) has reported record exports of 1.64m tonnes of beef in 2018, for a total value of US$6.57bn (an 11% and 7.9% increase on 2017 results respectively). According to Abiec, this consolidates Brazil’s position as the world’s largest beef exporter, as it represents the largest quantity of beef exported ever. The principal destinations for Brazilian beef are Hong Kong, China, and Egypt, followed by the European Union, Chile, and Iran (although exports to the latter have fallen over the past year).
