In brief: Chile increases growth prediction for 2021

* Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has increased its national GDP growth forecast for 2021 from 5.5%-6.5% to 6%-7%. Chile's GDP fell by 5.8% in 2020 due to the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. But the BCCh says that it has observed “greater dynamism than anticipated” in the domestic economy this year. It notes that despite possible setbacks due to the recent tightening of Covid-19 restriction measures amid surging infections, the national vaccination programme, external impetus, and expansionary policies will keep the 2021 prediction on track.
