MEXICO: Parties engage in war of words over electoral violence

On 2 April the government of Mexico’s central state of Guanajuato offered to provide security protection for all candidates competing in the upcoming elections after Bertha Gisela Gaytán Gutiérrez, who was running for mayor of Celaya for the nationally ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), was shot dead on her first day of campaigning.
