TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Patrick Manning's promises

The general election held in Trinidad & Tobago on 5 November was an unusual one, with the newly formed multiracial Congress of the People (COP) trying to oust the mostly black supported People's National Movement (PNM) of Prime Minister Patrick Manning and to sideline the mostly Indian supported United National Congress (UNC) and its minor allies in the United National Congress Alliance (UNCA). The PNM won a resounding victory, taking 26 of the 41 seats on offer to give it a third successive term in government.
