Constituent assembly suspended temporarily

While optimism regarding the future of the constituent assembly was revived in early August by the extension of its mandate, the polemic over the transfer of the country's capital has brought its work to a halt. Critics suggest that the issue of the capital switch is merely an excuse for the right wing opposition to sabotage the assembly and obstruct efforts at drawing up a more inclusive constitution.
