PERU-CHILE: New maritime map stokes tension

The Peruvian government ratcheted up the tension with Chile over the disputed maritime boundaries between the two countries on 12 August by publishing a map in its official gazette El Peruano repeating its claim to some 37,900 km2 of ocean currently under Chilean control Unsurprisingly, the new map incensed the Chilean government which promptly filed a diplomatic protest and withdrew its ambassador to Lima for "consultations".
