ECONOMIC OVERVIEW: COLOMBIA


The finance ministry believes that the economy is growing at an annual rate of at least 7.5%. In the first quarter the growth rate was 7.98%; but in the second the rate is likely to have come down to a more sustainable 7%. Construction is the fastest growing sector: preliminary figures show the sector growing by 17.2%, year-on-year, in the second quarter. Industrial output was up by 12.4% and financial services by 9%. The main laggard is agriculture which grew by only 1.9%, year-on-year, in the second quarter.
