NICARAGUA | Venezuela writes off debt. The Venezuelan government has written off US$33.2m of Nicaragua's bilateral debt, reducing the country's overall external debt to US$3.4bn. The debt-pardon agreement was signed in June, but was only announced on 20 July, during President Hugo Chávez 's third visit to Nicaragua.
