ECUADOR: Congress seeks criminal proceedings against Patiño

Ecuador's congressional opposition has refused to accept President Rafael Correa's endorsement of shamed economy minister Ricardo Patiño [WR-07-28] as the last word. It has decided to turn evidence collected on Patiño's alleged misuse of public funds over to the chief public prosecutor, in the hope that the prosecution service will find grounds to recommend criminal proceedings against the minister. One congressman has called for the impeachment of President Correa.
