What’s happening to tourism?

The spluttering economic performance of the western world’s biggest economies is likely to have a major effect on the region’s key industry, tourism. Most countries are reporting only a mild increase (3% to 4%) in tourist arrivals or spending this year. The big exception is Cuba, where the government claims that tourism revenues in the first half of 2011 are 13% up on the same period of 2010 at US$990m.
