ARGENTINA: Argentina’s industrial paradise

As vehemently as he had denounced the economic and industrial policies of Cristina Fernández’s administration, José Ignacio de Mendiguren, the president of the influential Unión Industrial Argentina (UIA), the most important industrial lobbying group in the country, is now lauding the government. De Mendiguren’s rapid change of heart in light of what appears to be Fernández’s secure road to re-election has been so drastic and surprising for some sectors that the media has even coined a new term to describe the process whereby policies that used to be rejected are now applauded: the Mendigurización of a position.
