Fast & Furious rumbles on

There were three major developments in the investigation into the Fast & Furious scandal in November. The Republicans in the US Congress are trying to use Fast & Furious to embarrass President Barack Obama and force the resignation of Eric Holder, his attorney general and the minister ultimately responsible for the disastrous operation that encouraged Mexican gang members to buy 2,000 guns in the US in the hope that the whole network of their suppliers could be arrested and taken out of action. In fact what happened was that the US officials monitoring the purchases lost track of the guns ,which were sold from October 2009 onwards and started to turn up at crime scenes (at least 200) across Mexico in 2010.  Another couple were then found in Arizona, near the spot where a US Border Patrol agent, Brian Terry, was murdered in December 2010. The scandal is that senior officials in the administration of President Barack Obama either did not stop Fast & Furious when it was clearly going awry or were not told of the problems.
