NICARAGUA: Ortega reprises old routine

In a ceremony more notable for its guest list than substance, President Daniel Ortega took office for a second consecutive five-year term (and a third term in presidential office) last week. While his inauguration puts paid to uncertainty as to whether the opposition would be able to translate their objections to both his illegal candidacy and the electoral process into action, it also reveals ongoing misgivings on the part of the international community regarding the controversial 6 November election and resultant legitimacy of the new Ortega government.
