ARGENTINA: Struggle over inflation intensifies

Inflation in Argentina is either high but under control or exceptionally high and out of control. The government argues the former; private consulting firms the latter. The national statistics institute (Indec) this week published an ‘official’ inflation figure for 2011 of 9.5%. Private analysts put the figure at 22.8%, second only to Venezuela in the region and one of the highest rates in the world.
