PERU: Conga festers in the background

Although public attention in Peru appears to have drifted away from the continuing social protests against the proposed Conga copper and gold mining project in the northeast region of Cajamarca, the issue is slowly coming to a head.  The outcome could have important implications for the government led by President Ollanta Humala.
