MEXICO | Oil agreement. On 20 February the US and Mexican government signed an agreement on the development of oil and gas reserves which straddle their maritime border in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the Mexican government the agreement binds both countries to joint development of any oil and gas fields which lie within a 3 mile (5.5km) band either side of the 370km maritime border in the Gulf of Mexico.
