Cuba | Damas detained ahead of papal visit.  According to foreign press wires and local opposition bloggers, over the weekend about 70 members of the Ladies in White (Damas de Blanco), a group of female relatives of political dissidents and prisoners, were detained in various locations as they gathered to commemorate the ninth anniversary of a harsh official crackdown against dissidents, the so-called ‘Black Spring’, in March 2003.  Pope Benedict XVI will visit Cuba on 26-27 March.
