Judge rejects case against ‘Dr. Luchini’. On 16 March in Maraba (Pará), Federal Judge João Cesar Otoni de Matos rejected a case brought by state public prosecutors against a retired army colonel, Sebastião Curio Rodrigues de Moura, for the disappearance (in 1974) of five left-wing militants during the last military junta (1964-1985). The judge said the charges ran counter to Brazil’s 1979 Amnesty Law. The prosecutors said they could appeal all the way to the supreme court in what could prove a landmark case.
