MEXICO: Calderόn vies with Brazil

Mexico might have lost considerable ground to Brazil in the hemispheric leadership stakes in recent years, but President Felipe Calderόn served notice last week that it remains determined to recover lost diplomatic influence. With Mexico locked in a political struggle ahead of presidential and congressional elections on 1 July, Calderόn left the country for three intriguing ports of call in the Caribbean: Havana, Port-au-Prince and finally Cartagena de las Indias for the Summit of the Americas.
