More than 80,000 people marched in Colombia on Monday to the Plaza Bolívar in Bogotá, witnessing the birth of a new left-wing political party. Known as the Marcha Patriótica, the event marked the creation of the Consejo Patriótico Nacional (CPN); however, the outfit has already been widely criticised by politicians and local analysts who argue that it has not emerged from the democratic process that strengthens modern republics.
