Nicaragua sets a regional example

Last month Peru’s ambassador to Nicaragua, Rudencindo Vega Carriazo, hailed the citizen security policy of the government of President Daniel Ortega as an example for the rest of Latin America. His remarks, which followed a meeting with Nicaragua’s popular chief of police, Aminta Granera, at the national police (PNN) headquarters, once again highlight the relative success of Nicaragua compared with its neighbours vis-à-vis security – an achievement attributed to a range of factors.
