SECURITY | Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC) founder captured. On 26 May the Colombian army announced it had captured Alfonso Rodríguez Ramírez (‘El Novillo’), 47, in the locality of El Monguí de Colombia, department of Huila. Rodríguez Ramírez is considered one of the main promoters of right-wing paramilitarism in Huila and has been sentenced (in absentia) to 38 years in prison for the crimes of: homicide of a protected person; aggravated extortive kidnapping; and conspiracy to commit a crime. He is also wanted in relation to several massacres, theft, extortion and the forced displacement of at least 725 peasants.
