All in for the abolition of local police forces

The four presidential contenders in the 1 July election agree on very few policies, but when it comes to fighting organised crime and drug trafficking organisations (DTOs), they all seem to agree on one fundamental reform: establishing a single command, or mando único, of the police (see sidebar). However, that is as far as the agreement goes, even if most of the proposals would require the abolition of municipal forces, which would be replaced either by a national police force or strengthened state ones.
