Forces conduct fourth major border control operation

In May the Brazilian armed forces were sent out on their largest-ever multi-agency offensive against organised crime, targeting a huge stretch of the country’s northern Amazonian border. Unlike previous exercises in Amazônia, this was a law-enforcement drive, meant to deal a blow, from the air and on the ground, to the traffic in drugs, arms and humans, and illegal logging and mining operations. Also in May the Brazilian government announced new steps towards defence cooperation with Colombia and new developments in the field of defence technology.
