COLOMBIA: Petro to make a fresh start?

It is not a political crisis, and those who think it is are simply misinformed. That is how Mayor Gustavo Petro responded to the widespread belief that this week’s resignation of all 12 members of his cabinet was the result of fractures within Bogotá’s executive. Instead, he and his supporters argue, the resignations are a mere formality to give the mayor an opportunity to evaluate the ministers’ performance in the first six months of government and decide who, if any, should stay in or leave the cabinet.
