ARGENTINA: Strikes and blackouts on the horizon?

“We won't make it to the end of the year”, officials from two energy distribution companies Empresa Distribuidora Norte SA (Edenor) and Empresa Distribuidora Sur (Edesur) recently told the local magazine Fortuna. With inflation running in double digits and energy rates capped by the government, the two main energy providers serving the capital Buenos Aires – supplying some five million households between them - say that they are nearly bust.
