***ELECTION DATE SET IN TURKS & CAICOS. On 12 June the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, announced that the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory, will hold elections on 9 November 2012. The British government suspended the Turks and Caicos’s constitution and direct rule in 2009 following the establishment of a commission of inquiry into allegations of corruption by former Prime Minister Michael Misick (2003-2006) and his government. So far, 13 individuals including four former government ministers have been formally charged in court with taking millions of dollars to fraudulently distribute government land and giving access to developers. In March last, an international arrest warrant was issued for Misick, who is wanted on allegations of corruption and money laundering during his time in office.
