ECUADOR: Chávez victory key for Correa

President Rafael Correa has been keeping it under his hat whether he will stand for re-election in February 2013. His decision may well hinge on whether his Venezuelan peer, Hugo Chávez, is victorious in his re-election bid this October. If Chávez were to lose, Ecuador’s prospects would suddenly look a lot less rosy than they do now – and the temptation to heed his wife’s advice to quit politics and spend more time with his family might hold significantly more appeal for Correa.
