Mexico must look to increase trade with Asia, not least because of the continued doubts about the US economy, Enrique Peña Nieto told the daily El Financiero on 23 July. “We have to take advantage of the [US] geographical proximity, but if the economic situation there does not improve, Mexico is obliged to look for other markets to strengthen growth”, he stated. “Asia is a region with a lot of consumers and the spending power of the market has grown and improved. This is an opportunity for the Mexican presence.”
