GUYANA: Linden unrest has deep roots

On 18 July, protesters in Guyana’s second largest town, Linden, demonstrating at a proposed cutting in their (substantial) electricity subsidy, found themselves in a lethal confrontation with the police in which three protesters were shot dead and 20 wounded.  It is not the first time that violent unrest in Linden has cost lives.
