EL SALVADOR: Pragmatism prevails

President Mauricio Funes is trumpeting it as “the most important historic event in the institutional life of the country”. Yet the agreement reached on 19 August between the different political parties ending the impasse between the legislature and judiciary, which began over two months ago [WR-12-30], has left major questions regarding institutional process, the independence of government branches as well as the lack of clarity between different jurisdictions.
