Costa Rica’s President Laura Chinchilla has just paid a visit to China, her second since taking office in May 2010 and the third by a Costa Rican head of state since the two countries established diplomatic ties seven years ago. With the announcement that Costa Rica would host the VII China-Latin America business summit in 2013, the visit – which yielded eight accords spanning trade, infrastructure, security and education – highlights Costa Rica’s continued geopolitical significance to China as a bridge to Central America which, while yet to make the switch from Taiwan, continues to show an interest in boosting trade and investment [
