Cuban economic reform: changes afoot

After a lull over the summer, further developments in Cuba’s economic reform process are likely in the coming months. The aim of the reforms is to boost productivity within the domestic economy. If they succeed, an improvement in competitiveness will bring higher levels of productive investment, export earnings and import capacity, improving living standards and increased opportunities for international business. However, the pace of change is very cautious, with policymakers wary of economic, as well as political and social, risks.
